Elizabeth Potter, Member
My name is Elizabeth Potter and I moved to Ruidoso in August of 2008. I moved here from
Oklahoma where I worked as the Early Head Start Director and Assistant Head Start Director.
When I moved to Ruidoso I worked as the Education/Disabilities Coordinator with the local
Head Start Program. I am married to Frank Potter and have three grown children, who all
graduated from Ruidoso Schools, and three grandchildren. I have a degree in Early Childhood
Education and Business Administration. For the past 13 years I have led a local non-profit, Food
4 Kids Backpack Program, in Lincoln County. I am the co-chair of the Cultural and Natural
History Committee that was created recently by the Village of Ruidoso to oversee the Wingfield
Heritage House Museum. I have spent 20+ years working with and for children. My passion is
education and helping children and families.

Luther Light, Vice President

Luther Light grew up in the Wasatch Mountains outside of Salt Lake City, Utah where his parents owned a restaurant and ski lodge. Most of his childhood was spent fishing, skiing, cooking omelets, and playing with Legos while watching cartoons. He attended public school through eighth grade, and even fondly remembers most of his wonderful teachers and principals, though not a single member of the public school board. After graduating from a private high school, Luther received a BS in natural resources from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University. During a semester away from college, Luther met his future wife, Amanda Favis, and after graduation, he followed her from state to state while she completed her education and he worked in various construction and engineering jobs. In 2006, Luther and Amanda ended up in the Ruidoso area. Their two boys, Jacob and Elliot, were born soon after, and Luther busied himself as a father, a part-time helper at Amanda’s business, a vegetable gardener, and a dabbler in outdated building techniques. Interest in his children’s education led Luther back into public schools, this time as a volunteer, where he met a new generation of wonderful teachers and principals as well as educational assistants and support staff.

Dave Tomlin, Member

I moved to Ruidoso from New York with my wife Pam and our daughter Lizzy in 2012 after a long career with The Associated Press. In my last decade before retirement, I was associate general counsel for AP, overseeing legal matters related to news gathering. I’ve been active in a number of civic projects here. I founded and operated a volunteer service called Care Bearers which provided free rides to health care appointments. I’ve also done volunteer work for the High Mountain Youth Project, The Nest and Lincoln County Adult Literacy. From time to time I’ve served as a substitute teacher in Ruidoso schools.

Kelly Johnson, Member

Kelly R. Johnson grew up in Ruidoso and attended Ruidoso Municipal Schools from Kindergarten through graduation at Ruidoso High School. From there, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Minor in Business Administration at St. Edward's University.

Kelly and her husband made the decision to move back to Ruidoso six years ago to raise their children in the mountains. Two of their children are students in Ruidoso Municipal Schools and their youngest will be a Wee Warrior soon. In her free time, Kelly enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, playing golf, snowboarding, hiking, and serving as a Girl Scout Troop Leader.

As a parent in the district, a daughter of a former educator at Ruidoso Schools, and a proud alumna of RHS, Kelly looks forward to serving the district and being an advocate for our students, teachers, parents, and the district.
