Learning in Action at Ruidoso Middle School
The Ruidoso School Board and Superintendent Michelle Ronga visited Ruidoso Middle School in October 2026, touring classrooms and hearing directly from students about their learning. The visit offered a glimpse into the variety of lessons, activities and opportunities that encourage students to ask questions, build skills and explore new interests.
Sixth graders were working on their language arts lessons, strengthening reading and comprehension skills through individualized instruction. Students also explained how their shop, STEM and culinary electives rotate every nine weeks. These rotations introduce students to different subjects and practical experiences, helping them discover interests they may want to pursue as they continue their education.
In social studies, students explored ancient Egypt through lessons on artifacts and mummies, considering what these pieces of history reveal about the people and cultures of the past. Science lessons focused on the formation of volcanoes and how baffling these powerful natural events were to people first trying to understand them. The discussion connected scientific explanations with the curiosity that drives people to investigate the world around them.
In the seventh-grade bilingual classroom, students shared the sequence of events in a story in both English and Spanish. This work reinforced comprehension and organization while giving students opportunities to communicate their understanding in two languages. In language arts, students examined how vocabulary choices influence the tone of a descriptive paragraph and help a writer convey meaning.
Seventh-grade science students were taking a closer look at the building blocks of matter. Their study of atomic structure included exploring protons, electrons and neutrons and how these particles fit together within an atom, laying a foundation for understanding more complex scientific concepts.
Throughout the visit, students had opportunities to explain their work and share their classroom experiences with district leaders. Thank you to the students, teachers and staff at Ruidoso Middle School for welcoming the School Board and Superintendent Ronga and highlighting the learning taking place across the campus!
