Letter to Parents

Great things are happening at RMS! We encourage you to join our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Our PAC leaders are Heather O’Bryant, President; Cynthia Powers, Vice President; Stacy Belcher, Treasurer; and Layle Snead, Secretary. Our parents have promoted and enriched the RMS community in many different ways. They have been instrumental in making the 7th grade Science Fair successful and we look forward to its expansion this school year with parents volunteering to serve as student science tutors. If school spirit is you calling, we are happy to have parents who are interested in supporting the spirit squad. We are civic minded and realize the importance of teaching our youth to give back to the community. Many of our school clubs and organizations support community events and actions. Please contact our school if there is a community need we might be able to address. We are open to parents who have special interests and who would like to augment our extra-curricular program. Please visit with us if there is something you would like to see happen at RMS to enrich our students’ school experience. You are an important component to the success of RMS students!

Ruidoso Middle School continues to expand and enrich its curricular and extra-curricular offerings. We have added PreAP Language Arts, PreAP Science, and Journalism/yearbook as an elective. Spanish I, Health, NM History, Algebra I and Geometry are available courses awarding high school credit. Clubs include: Girls Who Code, Robotics, MESA, Knowledge Bowl, Art club, SADD, History Club, Spanish Club, Indian Club, Chess Club, Spirit Club, and Student Council. Sports activities include: football, soccer, track, basketball, volleyball, golf, wrestling, softball, and cheer. Please encourage your child to participate in a club or sport and be an active and positive member of the RMS community. In partnership with New Mexico State University, we are piloting the ENLACE program for two 8th grade glasses (1 English & 1 Spanish) which will result in student research presentations at NMSU in the Spring of 2017.

You can be assured the RMS teachers and support staff are dedicated to providing your child with an exceptional educational opportunity. However, your child’s success is dependent on our working together. Please communicate any concerns or needs to your child’s teachers and school administration. Timely communication facilitates a prompt response on our part. It is important for us to be able to contact you at any given time, please be sure you update your addresses and phone numbers as soon as you have changes. Our middle school students are still developing and need the security of knowing you are easily contacted if they are in need. Please check your child’s attendance and grade weekly. Two new grades should appear per week.

I hope for continued open communication with parents and students. Please communicate any concerns to Coach Speck or myself.

Best regards,

Dr. Anna Santiago Addis Mike Speck

Principal Assistant Principal
