Sierra Vista Primary School, Ruidoso's newest campus, opened in August 1994 and took many months of planning with a committee of teachers, parents and administrators to pave the way. The school home for first and second graders, Sierra Vista's total enrollment for its first year was approximately 375 children.

Curricula at Sierra Vista Primary emphasizes the development of strong reading and math skills, as well as an emphasis on social skills, respect and responsibility. The school is justifiably proud of the regular programs offered. It also provides instructional support programs, including Bilingual Education, Chapter1 (reading and math), Instructional Computer Lab, Library, Physical Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech, Inclusion, Title VII, and Gifted Education. The school also provides a part-time counselor and a Native American Liaison.

Another unique program available at Sierra Vista is the Extended Day Program. Parents may bring their children to school before regular school hours. In addition, some choose to have them stay after school hours, both options under the supervision of certified teachers. This program has proved to be safe, nurturing and enriching for the students.

A strongly held belief of both the administration and the faculty at Sierra Vista Primary is the idea that when parents and teachers work together all students benefit. With a variety of parent involvement programs, the school endeavors to keep communication a priority, understanding that this interaction is essential to the success of the students.
