Ruidoso Middle School student council members attended the New Mexico Association of Student Councils leadership conference Feb. 8-10, at Bernalillo High School. They won in the Mid-level Banner competition, took second in School Spirit and second in State Project for their “Brave Backpack” project for children.
Student Council sponsor Tricia Jameson’s students interviewed Michelle Burge with the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department to find out what to put in the backpacks for children temporarily removed from their homes.
“We put together and donated 12 backpacks,” Jameson said. “Subway donated 12 kids meal certificates for each pack and Walmart helped with donations for the packs.”
