Spotlight on Robyn Draper and HEAL

Draper has taught at Ruidoso Middle School for 17 years. She has two children, one who has graduated from Ruidoso schools and one who still is attending. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and traveling with her children and her husband, Dallas Draper.

“When I think of HEAL and The Nest, the first thing I think about is bravery,” Draper said.  “How brave the women are who seek help and how HEAL helps our community by empowering its people.”

Now serving as the vice president of HEAL’s board, Draper enthusiastically dove-into the position, ready to address the important responsibilities that go along with working on a non-profit board.

“I am looking forward to making long range plans for the improvement of the facility and meeting the needs of the clients through service to the organization,” Draper said.

“We are so lucky to have Robyn on our Board,” Micah Woodul, HEAL Board President, said. “She brings a valuable perspective that will help achieve HEAL’s goals of aiding survivors of domestic violence and spreading awareness in our community.”

“I wish people knew how dedicated the members and staff of HEAL are to the cause of ending domestic violence in our communities,” Draper said, returning the compliment.

Their responsibilities range from setting the annual budget to establishing long-term strategic goals for the program. The board establishes policies that align with HEAL’s mission statement and then implements the policies in day-to-day operations of The Nest Domestic Violence Shelter and at Sweet Charity, HEAL’s resale boutique. Overall, since the board of directors shape what HEAL will be and will accomplish. They are vital to the success of the organization.

Robyn Draper moved to New Mexico from Oklahoma in 1991, and in addition to Lincoln County, has lived in Las Cruces, Roswell, and Portales. She was eager to get involved with HEAL when a previous board member suggested she would be a good fit.
